Dear Members and Friends:
The Irish Business Organization of New York is hosting its 29th Annual Gala Ball on Friday, March 9th at the New York Hilton Hotel. This glittering event brings together Irish and Irish Americans in a celebration of our heritage, our friendship and success.
As part of this celebration we confer our highest awards on outstanding individuals who exemplify the true spirit of the Irish, both in business and in life. Our Business Man of the Year Award will be given to James Doran. Jim is Vice President, Operations for Vornado Realty Trust and is a successful businessman and benefactor who in recognition of his Irish heritage has given back so much to the Irish and Irish American Community both in his business and personal life. Jim is a Past President of the IBO and serves on its Advisory Board as well as serving on the Board of the Irish American Building Society. Jim embodies the industriousness spirit of hard work, success and concern for others that characterize our community.
For our Business Woman of the Year Award we have chosen Anne Tarrant. Anne is President of APT Associates. Initially concentrating on event management services, the company has expanded to include, market research, business consultancy, administrative services, and property management. Anne has not forgotten her Irish roots and a generous supporter of the Irish community. She is a shining example of the hard work, dedication and generosity that characterize our Irish heritage.
The recipient of our Celtic Spirit Award is Niall O’Dowd, Founder/Publisher of the Irish Voice. Niall played a key role in the setting up of the Irish Immigration Reform Movement. He initiated the Irish American Peace Delegation in 1992 that played a key role in bringing about the 1994 IRA ceasefire and involving President Clinton in the Irish peace process. His recent book, "Fire in the Morning" an account of the Irish at the World Trade Center on September 11 2001, was a best-seller in Ireland. His tenacity, love of heritage, and leadership is the true Celt!
The Humanitarian Award goes to Maeve O’Malley, Senior Marketing Executive for Enterprise Ireland, New York. She has united Irish and American businesses, driving the growing sales of Irish products in US markets. Maeve is a faithful longtime member of the IBO, is a past-president and now serves on the Advisory Board. Maeve’s involvement in CONCERN took her to Haiti in 2004. This wrenching visit left an indelible impression on her and Maeve has committed her life to help the Haiti Concern Mission.
Our special guest for the evening is one of Ireland’s world renowned and funniest comedians, Brendan Grace. Our Master of Ceremonies for the evening is IBO member and past president, Martin Dunne.
As a 501c3 non-profit organization the Irish Business Organization depends on the donations of many companies.
There are a number of ways that you can show your support for our award recipients:
• By purchasing tickets for the event
• By sponsoring the event
• By placing an advertisement in our Dinner Program
• By donating products or services for our Silent Auction or Raffle (items like giftware, jewelry, vacations, tickets to sporting events, gift certificates etc.)
If you are unable to assist in any of the above ways, perhaps you might consider making a donation. A contribution to CONCERN will be made by the IBO to continue the work done by this organization. Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call our IBO Administrator, Clare Bennett, at 212.750.8118.
Sincerely,
Attracta Lyndon
