PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS

A Message From Attracta Lyndon,
IBO President, 2006

We haven't had time to catch our breath so far this year - we hit the ground running!

On behalf of the Executive Committee, I'd like to thank you for your support. Your suggestions, offers of help, eagerness and excitement about being a part of this great organization make all the hard work very worthwhile.

I am so proud to say that our February meeting was filled to capacity as guest speaker, Bill Cullen, Author of "It's a Long Way from Penny Apples" and "Golden Apples – Six Simple Steps to Success" was introduced to the IBO by Consul General, Tim O'Connor. It was a personal pleasure to have Bill here with us, and it also gave me an opportunity to catch up on how he and Jackie are doing. As you may know, Jackie has donated a stay at her five-star hotel "Muckross House" to our gala ball for several years now, and we are so appreciative of the support both Bill and Jackie have provided the IBO.

No sooner was the February meeting over that we hosted a special luncheon on February 22nd with guest speaker, Mark FitzGerald, CEO of Sherry FitzGerald. We had 130 people at the lunch held at Rosie O'Grady's Manhattan Club. The event was a huge success. I'd like to thank our lunch sponsors, Country Bank and The Padded Wagon. And of course a great thank you goes to Sherry FitzGerald, who made a donation to the IBO in recognition of the work we put into putting this special event together.

On March 8th, we held our St. Patrick's Day Party in support of the ILIR at the Pig 'n Whistle. It was a great evening and went on into the wee hours of the morning. Music was provided by Shay Mac and we look forward to seeing Shay at future meetings and events. We proudly marched up Fifth Avenue on March 17th in the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade. This year we invested in sashes, a banner pole and flag carriers - and the investment paid off. We received accolades from John Dunleavy, Chair of the NYC Parade, for our professionalism and appearance.

Well done to everyone who marched with us! Sarah Jones, how did we look from your perch on the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral??

I am proud and delighted that, as a result of all these events, the IBO has been receiving constant and intensive media coverage from the four Irish papers - The Irish Emigrant, Irish Examiner, Irish Voice and Irish Echo.

Also, The Irish Emigrant is graciously donating space to the IBO for our use every other week. This will provide us with a great opportunity to keep the community informed about the IBO, our membership, and our events.

IBO Theatre Night, March 29th at the Irish Arts Theater, was well attended and we thank the Irish Arts Center for working with us to put together this excellent evening. The play "A Night in November" was simply wonderful and enjoyed by all. We look forward to more nights like this.

Our Advisory Board has several long-term irons in the fire that we will be filling you in on at a later date. Our Advisory Board Members are Bernadette McManus, Simon Pereira-Shorey, Mike Carty of Rosie O'Grady's, John Guerrera and Brendan Dunphy. Our Constitution and Membership Committees are organized and ready to get going.

Our April 14th our guest speaker will be Niall O'Dowd of the Irish Voice. May’s guest speaker is still in the works, and this will be when all of your wonderful suggestions and ideas from January’s meeting will be brought to the table and discussed as a whole.

The IBO Golf Outing will be on June 2nd at the Irish Links at Union Vale. Martin Dunne, Maeve O'Malley and others are working away on the details which will be sent out to all of you shortly. We are thrilled that we have the opportunity to use the Irish Links - we feel that as an Irish Business Organization, it is important to support our own and hope that all of you will support this great day in some form.

We are moving the IBO Annual Gala Ball to March 9th, 2007. As many of you are aware, it is getting more difficult each year to find a suitable date in September and October as more and more organizations are holding similar events. We also feel that being a uniquely Irish business organization it would be most appropriate to align ourselves with March and St. Patrick's Day. We are pulling together a committee to work on this, so if you are interested, let Clare know. We already have several enthusiastic members.

Seeing as we are moving the ball to March we are discussing ideas for a fall event. If you have any thoughts, please do not hesitate to share them with Clare either via email at clareb@ibo-ny.com or phone 212.750.8118. We are working on a very special summer event - details coming soon...

On behalf of the Executive Committee and myself, I thank all of you for your support. We ask that you continue to grow with us as we plan throughout the year. We welcome your participation in the various committees, as every hand helps. If you haven't paid your dues, please take a moment to do so as your financial support is vital to the success of this great organization.

Slán agus beannacht leat
Attracta Lyndon
President
