PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS
It has been an exciting and productive year so far. The sixth annual IBO Trade show, held in June, was a success thanks to the efforts of Chairman Jim McGuire and his committee. It provided an opportunity for IBO members to showcase their products at 32 booths. The evening finished in true Irish style - listening and dancing to Andy Cooney and his show band. A personal “thank you” to them. The annual golf outing in July was another great event thanks to the efforts of Chairman John Doolan and his committee. It was a fine day of golf, and a fantastic evening of food, beverages and prizes. If you were unable to join us you missed an opportunity to socialize and network with your fellow members and guests. Thank you to Twin Brooks golf course and the staff for all the great service they provided us.
A summer would not be complete without the annual IBO summer fest. Under a clear sky and a full moon IBO members networked and enjoyed all the amenities that Harbour Lights had to offer. If you were not there you missed another chance to meet and greet your fellow members in a comfortable social setting. Thank you to Clare Bennett for arranging another great evening for IBO members.
Our next general meeting on September 14th will be at a new location in the Midtown Executive Club a wonderful venue for the IBO. We will have 2 great speakers, NASA astronaut Scott Kelly and Father Colm Campbell (see below).
Come out for this exciting evening – it will be time well spent. In October we will have nominations for the election of officers for 2006. Please join us and be part of the process. The continued strength of our organization will come from all members contributing to our success. Our speaker for the evening will be newly arrived Consul General Tim O’Connor. The member profile will be Greg Shields of the Irish Emigrant. This evening will certainly be informative and exciting - write it down in your day planner and make it a part of your business day.
The November meeting will be the election of officers for 2006.We will have member profiles for the evening and no outside speakers.
Please remember meetings will begin with informal networking at 6:30. The next general meeting will begin at 7:15 sharp.
Our major event of the year is approaching rapidly. The Annual IBO Gala Ball will be held on October 14th. This event is not only our major fund raiser of the year but also an opportunity to see and be seen in very elegant surroundings. Please support our organization by purchasing tickets and/or tables to the Ball and buying raffle tickets. Another way of showing support is to be a sponsor or if you can not be a sponsor --- refer a company that can be. For more information check our website www.ibo-ny.com or call Clare Bennett at 212-750-8118.
I would like to close by quoting Bill Cullen from his book Golden Apples. Mr. Cullen states that, “Luck is when opportunity meets preparation.” Please support our organization by attending the meetings and coming to our Gala Ball and maybe you will find the “luck” you have been looking for.
