October 2006 Issue:

PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS

A Message From Attracta Lyndon,
IBO President, 2006

A Cara,

Here we are – Fall. Isn’t it an invigorating time of year as we enjoy sunny days, the cooler weather, the changing of the leaves? I know at this time of year I don’t “put things on the long finger” - those things I’ve put off and off suddenly don’t seem such a big deal. I enjoy getting out and about and find myself committing to more things than any other time of year.

I’m hoping that all of you feel the same way at this time of year! As your President this year, one of my biggest worries has been meeting attendance. I understand completely the stresses of our everyday lives. I am, however, going to ask one thing of you – mark your calendar for the second Wednesday of every month, and please try to attend as many of the IBO General Monthly Meetings as possible. Our guest speakers and member profiles put their time on the calendar to speak and present at our meetings – we need to unite as a community to provide them with our support. We also need to support each other. We are chartered to “encourage, increase, and further the business interests of IBO members and promote and facilitate networking opportunities for IBO members.” We should remind ourselves that our “mantra” is to NETWORK, COMMUNICATE, RECIPROCATE.

The IBO is YOUR networking organization. We, the Executive Committee, along with Clare, are only the tools in place each year to keep the mechanics of the organization going – YOU ARE THE HEART OF THE ORGANIZATION and it is our General Membership Monthly Meetings that keep that heart beating!

Another thing I’m personally appealing to you all for is help with our Fall Fundraising Event. As you know, traditionally, we have held our Annual Gala Ball in October. The funds from this event have always been used to support the organization for the year ahead, helped by the Membership Dues. Membership Dues come in between January and March. Unfortunately, due to the competition we come up against in October with other Irish Organizations, we did not make the funds we need to sustain us for the year. The financial success of the Sherry-Fitzgerald luncheon in February and the Golf Outing at the Irish Links in June helped alleviate and sustain us. However, WE DO NEED to host a fundraising event in the Fall of this year in lieu of the Gala Ball (which has been moved to March 9, 2007). I am PLEADING for your input. Clare is more than willing to run with it if you are afraid you will have to commit time you don’t have – we just need your suggestions, thoughts, etc. We are considering a Casino Night, or a Murder Mystery Dinner, depending on overheads. Do you have thoughts on either of these events, or do you have a good idea for an event that has low overhead costs with the potential of being a good fundraiser? Call Clare at 212.750.8118 or email her at clareb@ibo-ny.com.

I know I’ve thrown a lot at you today, some you may agree with, some you may not! I’d like to personally invite you to call or email me directly with any thoughts, concerns or suggestions you have. I can be contacted at 732.345.9162 or email at attractalyndon@hotmail.com.

Finally, October is Nomination of Officers for 2007 followed by Elections in November. To nominate, to second a nomination and/or to be nominated you must be a member in good standing. (Please see the Newsletter or visit the website for more detailed information). I encourage you all to be at these two important meetings.

Slán agus beannacht leat
Attracta Lyndon
President
